Ghosts of the avant-garde: Wolfgang Asholt
According to the avant-garde researcher and Romance studies scholar Wolfgang Asholt, “The Long Life of the Avant-Garde: A History of Theory” is to be regarded as the first attempt, after Peter Bürger’s “Theory of the Avant-Garde” (1974) and Paul Mann’s “Theory-Death of the Avant-Garde” (1991), to present a more recent study of avant-garde theory that examines its development in historical as well as current constellations and articulations.
